The problem of reconstructing a three-dimensional scene from single or multiple views has been thoroughly studied in the computer vision literature, and recently has been applied to problems in the history of art. Criminisi pioneered the application of single-view metrology to reconstructing the fictive spaces in Renaissance paintings, such as the vault in Masaccio’s Trinita ̀ and the plaza in Piero della Francesca’s Flagellazione.
